HOTELS & RELATED INFO

It is suggested to arrive earlier than September 29th to allow at least one more day for your body to rest if you have a long flight duration before the tour begins on September 30th. If you decide to do this, you will need to pay for each additional night that is not part of the tour days.

Hotel Check-In time on September 29 from 15:00 (3:00 pm).

If you arrive at the hotel on September 28th (the Feast Of Tabernacles Holiday) before the customary 21:00 (9:00 PM) check-in time, your room will not be available (due to strict observance of religious holidays and customs in Israel). Store your luggage with the concierge and take the time to walk around and get a feel for the city of Jerusalem.

NOTE RE: SEPTEMBER 28TH: If your flight lands in the morning hours and you wish to receive the room immediately upon your arrival at the hotel, it is recommended to book the previous night (September 27th-28th). The September 28th holiday observance day will end late in the evening and all guests in the hotels will leave very late, around 20:00 (8:00pm). Therefore the check-in for new guests will start from approximately 21:00 (9:00pm).

If you arrive on September 27th, hotel check-in time will be from 15:00 (3:00pm)

The hotels (4*star B&B) the tour group will be staying in at the beginning of the tour are Dan Jerusalem, Grand Court Jerusalem and Leonardo Hotel Jerusalem. Any additional lodging nights booked before September 29th for the hotel are done via a tourist agent and not directly with the hotel. Your JERUSALEM hotel will be determined by the organizer. DO NOT reserve your room directly with the hotel. We have a block of rooms reserved for the group with special rates ($220 double or single). Further information will be provided to you via e-mail.

The hotel night of October 6th with check-out the morning of October 7th is NOT included in the tour cost. October 6th is the last day of the tour: DAY SEVEN (THE PLEIADIANS – The Energy of Origin, Stars & Family – THE NEGEV DESERT). It is required that you stay at least this extra night at the Tel Aviv hotels of the tour group: the Dan Panorama Tel Aviv, Herods Tel Aviv, Hotel Metropolitan and Hotel Deborah in order to be able to join the last day of the tour. We will be departing October 6th early morning for the tour day and we will be returning very late at night 22/23:00 (10/11 PM) or later. Booking extra nights at these hotels in Tel Aviv is done via a tourist agent and not directly with the hotel. Your choice of hotel for October 6th night will determine the hotel you will stay at on October 5th night (October 5th night is included in the tour cost). DO NOT reserve your room directly with the hotel. We have a block of rooms reserved for the group with special rates: Dan Panorama Tel Aviv and Herods Tel Aviv 4*star superior B&B ($320 double $315 single), Hotel Metropolitan 4*star B&B ($230 double $225 single) and Hotel Deborah* 3*star B&B ($170 double $160 single). Further information will be provided to you via e-mail.
*Hotel Deborah has filled up for our group room block.
*Hotel Metropolitan has filled up for our group room block.

Sea of Galilee – Tiberias Hotels (4*star B&B)
These are the hotels the group will be staying at for the 3 nights lodging at the Sea of Galilee during the tour. The nights are included in the tour costs. The names and websites are for your information only. Your hotel will be determined by the organizer.
Leonardo Hotel, Nof Ginosar Hotel & Village Resort, Emily’s Boutique Hotel

Room Share

We do NOT organize room sharing for those who are traveling alone. We have an international attendee group, and this becomes complicated and potentially disappointing. Please arrange your own room sharing if you wish to have a partner.

Note: If you currently do not have a companion but wish to register as single to secure your place in the tour and look for a companion later that may join you, we would amend your tour cost to that of a double occupancy after your companion has also registered.

On occasion we receive requests from single participants that would like to share a room, asking us to connect them with others that are interested. Although we do not organize room sharing, we are happy to forward your contact details to others that are interested in this possibility, subject to availability.

Gratuities to waiters, porters, hotel and restaurant staff, baggage handlers, and hotel porters are not included in the registration fee and should be paid to each service at your discretion.

WIFI is free in hotels lobby and on bus tour

Simultaneous translation receiver

All non-English speakers will receive a simultaneous translation receiver (also for English speakers to hear English only) for the duration of the tour. The receiver will have to be returned to your guide at the end of the tour. Failure to return the equipment will generate a penalty of $120 USD + VAT (18% in Israel).

As you will be keeping the head-set translation audio receiver device with you the entire time you are on the tour and at any events after the tour, a fully refundable security deposit of $100 USD or 100€ Euro for the device is required from non-English and English participants*, on the first day of the tour, when checking into the bus.

Please have the money ready in cash: Must be as a $100 USD or 100€ Euro bill only. The money will be given back to you at the end of the tour, or on the last day of the events you registered for after the tour.

*NOTE: English participants also receive the device to hear the guides and speakers on the Tour better, when outdoors. You will NOT need the device for the events after the tour in Tel Aviv at the Theater. Only if you registered for the Oct. 11th Tour day to the Church of Nativity and Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend purchasing Travel Insurance (Cancellation and Medical Insurance) to protect against cancellation fees and additional travel expenses that may incur before, after or during the trip.

Please contact your medical provider, airline or travel agent to obtain a policy for this trip. This is important.

Important: Please make sure you have your medical insurance policy provider contact information with you, before leaving for Israel.

PASSPORT & VISA

Please check with your local Embassy or Consulate to see what is required for you to obtain a ‘Tourist Visa’ for Israel as soon as you register. Below is information provided by the State of Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Tourist Visa requirements for all countries worldwide:

Valid Passport

Be sure that your passport will not expire during your stay in Israel!

All visitors to Israel must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date they are departing the country.

People with no nationality must hold a valid laissez passer, as well as a visa back to the country that issued it.

Visitors are entitled to remain in Israel up to three months from the date of their arrival, in accordance with the conditions of the visa issued to them.

Tourist Visa

Many countries have a Visa Waiver Program with Israel which allows their citizens to visit Israel without a visa arranged in advance. Before embarking on a trip, visitors desiring to stop in Israel on their way to other destinations must check if they need a prearranged tourist visa. The list of countries below specifies from which countries tourists are required to present a prearranged visa. All Visa Waiver Program travelers must present a machine-readable passport at the port of entry in order to enter Israel without a prearranged visa; otherwise a visa is required. This applies to tourists arriving with a passage card from countries with a Waiver Program.

More detailed information can be found on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website:
http://mfa.gov.il/MFA_Graphics/MFA%20Gallery/Consular%20forms/VisaRequirements.pdf

Passport Safety

  • Keep your passport in your purse or a secure pocket where it cannot be seen; never pack your passport in your suitcase.
  • Leave a copy of the inside information page at home, another copy in your suitcase and your original passport with you or in a secure place.

AIRFARE

IMPORTANT NOTE: The months of September and October are around the major Jewish holiday of the Feast of Tabernacles which is considered a peak season in Israel. Hence it is advisable to book your airfare ahead of time. Usually the air tickets go on sale about twelve months in advance. Please contact your travel agency for more information.

Most international airlines operate flights to Israel.

Your flight arrival to Israel and departure should be to/from BEN GURION AIRPORT, Tel Aviv, Israel (code: TLV)

EL AL operates many direct flights from the United States, Europe, the Far East, and Africa.

Other Israeli airlines such as Arkia and Israir operate flights from central locations in Europe. There are no direct flights to Israel from distant locations such as Australia or South Africa, or from countries that have no diplomatic relations with Israel. It is therefore a good idea to reserve a connecting flight from these places, or to arrive in Europe and then purchase a ticket to Israel.

TRANSFER TO HOTEL

Transfer on arrival from Ben Gurion Airport to the Hotel

You will be staying at 3 different hotels during the tour days.
First hotel in Jerusalem. Second hotel in Sea of Galilee. Third hotel in Tel Aviv.
Upon arrival in Israel, please take a taxi to the hotel in Jerusalem.

Driving time from the Airport to Jerusalem is about 40-50 mins (depending on traffic).

Taxi Services (from the airport to the hotel)

The taxi companies based at Ben Gurion Airport are under the supervision of the Israel Airports Authority. We recommend that you only use these licensed taxis, operated by on-site dispatchers, rather than those which do not belong to these companies. The taxi stands and dispatcher’s booth are located at Terminal 3 on the ground level (G) of the multi-level road. Private-taxis (called “special”) and shared-taxi services (called “sherut”/shuttle) are available.

Licensed Taxis and prices to Jerusalem:

Nesher Tours (Shared Taxi/Shuttle)
Morning/Night 64NIS (18$/14€) per person
CASH ONLY: SHEKELS* / US$ / EURO€ & OTHER CURRENCIES

Hadar Lod (Private Taxi)
Morning 275NIS ($75/58€) – Night 325NIS ($90/70€)
CASH ONLY: SHEKELS*

Foreign Currency Exchange: Bank Hapoalim and Changeplace provide foreign currency services at the airport. The counters are located in the Landside Building, 3rd floor, at the entrance to Buy & Bye Shopping Mall; and in the Airside Building, at the rotunda.

Taxi drivers are required by law to use the meter on all trips. Unless you know the accepted rates, do not be tempted to set a price beforehand. For long trips, the driver must charge passengers according to the Ministry of Transport price list posted in all taxis.

A 25% surcharge for night trips is in effect from 9:01pm until 5:59am (from 4pm on Fridays and holiday eves). Trips out of Ben Gurion Airport are charged an additional 5.00 NIS, and passengers pay approximately 4.00 NIS for each suitcase. Passengers who request use of Road 6 (a toll road) will pay an extra 16.00 NIS.

Passengers are advised to request a receipt at the end of the journey.

Special Transportation from and to Ben Gurion Airport

MONEY

Your home currency may be exchanged at the airport, your hotel, one of the local money changers, or at one of the many ATMs throughout Israel that will give you Shekels for your transaction. Exchange rates vary depending on what you use in the exchange: cash, check, travelers check or credit card. Be sure to check with your hotel for the exchange rates as it can fluctuate daily. At all larger stores and restaurants you may use either your credit card or debit card.

  • U.S. dollar currency is widely accepted everywhere in Israel. Generally U.S. currency is accepted for small purchases. The exchange rate is approximately U.S. $1 to about 3.50 shekels. You can use U.S. dollar currency for small purchases, and credit cards for larger ones. Bring mostly $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills. Do not bring $50 bills or larger. Bring a lot of smaller bills, not coins. (By packing money in bundles of 15 $1’s with 2 $5’s, each bundle totalling $25, you could easily take the necessary amount with you on each day and never have to exchange money!)
  • Major credit cards such as Visa or MasterCard are excellent to have in case of an emergency and for buying more expensive items. They provide a good exchange rate and receipt. Always ask for the carbon, if used, along with your customer copy. Before you depart overseas, please notify your bank or credit card provider of your schedule, and that you will be making purchases out of the country.
  • We do not recommend the use of traveler’s checks, as you may experience difficulty using and/or cashing them. In addition, banks usually charge a handling fee when cashing traveler’s checks. Major credit cards are recommended for purchases.

VAT TAX

Israel has a standard VAT (Value Added Tax) tax on all purchases. You may receive a refund on Israel’s VAT tax if your purchase is made at a shop authorized by the Israel Tax Authority and the Ministry of Tourism to participate in the refunding arrangement (a sticker noting the shop’s participation should be placed on the door or window of the shop), and you receive a special VAT invoice (“Refund Invoice”). The price of the purchase, including VAT, (per tax invoice) must exceed $100 US. The goods purchased must be intended for your personal use only and are in non-commercial quantities. The goods purchased do not include: food, drink, or tobacco products (VAT will not be refunded for those goods). When departing from Ben Gurion Airport, you must go to the VAT refund counter and present both your tax form and the item(s) purchased along with your passport and airline ticket. Refund requests are only accepted in Israel, prior to your departure as refunds will not be sent to you abroad.

Allow time for this process when departing at the airport. It might take a while.

TIPS (Gratuities) & BARGAINING

In Israel it is customary to tip primarily in restaurants. When the bill does not include service, a 12% tip should be added to the payment. In hotels, tip the bellhop or any other service provider. Taxi drivers are generally NOT tipped.

Bargaining is acceptable in Israel, but not everywhere. In the open-air markets, do not hesitate to bargain as it is part of the experience and doing so can lower the price. Storekeepers are legally required to display prices and for the most part are not open to bargaining. This is also true of restaurants and public transportation. Passengers are advised to ask cab drivers to turn on the meter, thus avoiding unnecessary haggling.

LUGGAGE

  • Please arrive with one (1) suitcase per person only!
  • On tour buses in Israel, luggage storage space is limited. Only one suitcase per person will be stored in the luggage compartment of the bus.
  • Inside the bus, storage space is limited to the under-seat space in front of you and the shallow space above your head.
  • Porters are tipped based on one suitcase per person. You are responsible for additional pieces at all times.
  • Always pack fewer clothes than you think you need.
  • Include a closable canvas bag inside your suitcase, in case you need extra luggage for items you have purchased.

PACKING, CLOTHING & THINGS TO TAKE

  • For touring wear loose, comfortable cottons or other lightweight clothing that can be layered.
  • Dress in Israel is casual, but be prepared at tour sites to cover your shoulders and arms. Some sites will require those wearing shorts to cover their legs. Please, no tank-tops. It is appropriate to have at least the upper arms covered (T-shirt length), and pants and skirts to at least the knee. Bare midriffs are not appropriate for this tour. At some sites entrance is denied to people wearing shorts or sleeveless tops.
  • Note to women when touring Jerusalem: since Muslim women are covered from head to foot, some Muslim men may think that Western women’s clothing is “loose and immoral”. The same applies for Jewish Orthodox men. For this reason we ask that you dress modestly at all times: no shorts or sleeveless shirts. Also, a head-covering is required for visiting holy places. You will be provided with a gift of a head scarf.
  • No matter what the season in Jerusalem or Tiberias, the evenings can be cool due to the elevation, so a coat or light jacket is always advisable.
  • Comfortable walking shoes are a must! Include a more formal pair of shoes for dinners at the hotel. High heels are NOT recommended for women. Bring sandals and water shoes for the Dead Sea, beach or pools.
  • Be sure to include: swimsuit, water shoes, small flashlight, travel packages of tissues, sleeping mask, earplugs, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, moistened towelettes, washcloth, pocket size tissues (for restrooms), hand & body lotion (dry climate), notebook, pen, highlighter, compact folding umbrella in case of rain.
  • A sun hat will be provided to you as a gift.
  • Extra film and batteries for camera with protective case for x-ray machines.
  • Adaptor (220 volts) and converter for electrical appliances.
  • Prescription medicines in original container.
  • Calling cards or cell phone or smartphone.
  • Money (more than you think you will need, in small bills).
  • Do not pack: valuables, including items of sentimental value. Leave them at home.
  • Though Israel is a small country, it has a widely diverse climate from one section to another. We recommend checking the weather forecast before you arrive in Israel.

VACCINATIONS

None are required for Israel.

PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES

  • Be sure to pack enough of your prescription medications to last through the tour. Pack your medicine in the original bottle and bring some in your carry-on bag.
  • Bring an extra week’s supply, your doctor’s phone number, and a copy of the generic names for each.
  • Have your doctor write an Israel-equivalent prescription for life-dependent medications. Not all prescriptions are interchangeable. Your doctor will be able to advise you.
  • If you are allergic to any medicines, please keep a list of these with your passport.
  • In Israel you may need a prescription for medicine that is sold over the counter in other countries.
  • You should pack some aspirin, antacids, and similar items you use at home that you feel you might need on the tour.
  • If you suffer from motion sickness, bring along any medication you use to prevent this on the bus and plane.

TIPS TO REDUCE JET LAG

  • Get ample rest before your flight departure, and drink plenty of water and fluids.
  • Go to bed and get up at normal times for the new time zone. Your body will adjust quicker if you do not stay up all night or sleep during the day.

TIPS FOR THE FLIGHT

  • Wear comfortable clothing on the flight. Dress casually; wear loose-fitting clothes.
  • Bring a jacket and inflatable neck pillow for long overseas flight.
  • Drink plenty of fluids while traveling. Avoid coffee and alcohol.
  • Stand up and stretch several times during long flights. Stretch and contract your calf muscles with frequent foot exercises.

VOLTAGE

The electrical current in Israel is 220 volts. If your home country is 110 volts you will need to bring with you an electrical converter to convert the voltage and an adapter that your appliance can plug into. Be sure your adapter is for the Middle East and not Europe. Though they look similar, they are different.

PREPAID PHONE/SIM CARDSCELL PHONES & SMARTPHONES

  • Prepaid phone cards can be purchased at the hotel gift shops and airport.
  • If you have a cell phone or smartphone, check with your local provider for international service.
  • A few weeks before departure, you can order a cell phone or smartphone to rent for use in Israel from www.israelphones.com

IsraelPhones is the only company with a store at Ben Gurion International Airport.

Other companies: www.talknsave.net    www.call-israel.com    www.cellomobile.com

COMPUTERS, LAPTOPS, iPADS

  • You can bring your own laptop or iPad, or use the public computer in the lobbies of most hotels in Israel.
  • To use your own devices, it is best to buy a small adapter plug (220 volts, for the Middle East) to put on the end of your electrical cord, so it will fit into the sockets in Israel. This will save your battery life – either in the hotel or elsewhere – and keep you online. Purchase the adapter plug for about $5 at a travel store or on-line – it’s easier to buy them beforehand.
  • For some devices to work, you may need a converter with an adapter attached.
  • There is usually a fee of about $10 per day for WIFI access in hotel rooms. Some hotels allow you to use your laptop in their lobby or designated areas for wireless connection – either complimentary or for a small fee.
  • Ben Gurion Airport has free WIFI.

BUSES & RESTROOMS

  • The deluxe touring motor coaches are air-conditioned, and will accommodate approximately 50 passengers each.
  • Be on time and be prepared to rotate seats on the bus.
  • Bottled water is available on the bus at a cost of $1.00 per bottle.
  • In Israel tour buses do not have restrooms. However, restrooms are available in most sites that we will be visiting, and travel distances between sites are relatively short.

DAY TOUR DEPARTURE & RETURN

Usually, we will depart the hotel between 7:00-8:00AM and return in the evening or late evening. Your tour guide will announce the sightseeing schedule and a wake-up call for each day’s itinerary.

LOST ITEMS

  • Double check your belongings before leaving the plane, hotels and buses. We cannot assume responsibility for lost items.
  • Put your name and a contact number on your belongings. You can include our company information too.

WEATHER IN ISRAEL

Though Israel is a small country, it has a widely diverse climate from one region to another. We recommend checking the weather forecast before you arrive in Israel.

TIME IN ISRAEL

Israel is 7 hours ahead of US Eastern Standard time, 10 hours from the West Coast and 12 hours from Hawaii. Current time in Israel

SECURITY CHECK (UPON DEPARTING ISRAEL)

Passengers must arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure time.
Passengers arriving at the airport must first undergo a security check before approaching the counter of the airline they are flying. Passengers and their luggage are inspected by airport personnel with modern security equipment. They will then check in their luggage and receive a boarding pass and seat number.

  • Have all travel documents readily available at check-in, placed in your carry-on or purse, NOT in your luggage.
  • Be prepared to submit yourself to a body check by metal detector or by physical means if necessary.
  • Be prepared to open all luggage for inspection at check-in. All packages, including gifts, may be opened at this time.
  • Do not lock your CARRY-ON bag in any way, because in Israel the check of the carry-on is not done in front of the passenger. So if the carry-on bag is locked and security personnel request to check it, they will have to take you aside to open it.
  • Do not accept anything presented to you unless you have inspected the contents.
  • Please do not say or do anything during security checks that may cause delay in departure.
